First of, while I read German well, I am better off writing a review in English.
I have to say that I have absolutely no idea about the Shadowrun gaming. However - and this shows you how good this book is - that was absolutely no problem. This story can stand on its own, and my goodness, how well it does that. The character of Mischko lodged itself into my mind so fervently, I was unable to extract him for several weeks, going again and again over the powerful and emotionally challenging, as well as intricately bound 'relationship' between those two orks: Miscko and Nikita, a piece of sheer genius writing, where few words and shadowed sentences create a whole world of darkness and interdependence.

Alex Wichert surely is a master of language, catching the reader unaware and drawing eyes and mind right into the plot, and most of all the characters. A world builder par excellence, with a brilliant gift to sketch characters that turn with every word from two-dimensional words on a page into three-dimensional entities that will haunt you for months afterwards.

I won't say anything else, because other reviewers have already said it, just one very heartfelt thing: if you are able to read German, and if you love language, plot, and utterly dark and twisted characters which have a back-story and a past, present and future that make you dream of them, think of them, and get caught in their web of lives and deaths, then buy this book! It is still one that I pick up now and again and re-read.
